About Us

Mocha & Cookie’s Bakehouse

It’s always fun to hear an origin story. It might surprise you to learn that this name really doesn’t have much to do with coffee or treats.

In the summer of 2013 our family moved to an acreage in Waterloo (just east of Denver). Over the years we’ve expanded our acreage to what we think is a pretty legitimate small hobby farm. We raise cows, chickens, and pigs. We’ve gradually expanded our garden year after year, and we have an army of barn cats to keep the rodents at bay.

During our Covid quarantine (remember that???) the kids and I started brainstorming different names for potential businesses we could create for our farm. We wanted to sell eggs, produce, and baked goods.

As we considered names for the different commodities we would want to sell from our farm, we leaned hard into selling baked goods. Our family has enjoyed homemade sandwich bread, bagels, muffins, and cookies for as long as any of us can remember. Why not share what we love with our community? Early in the brainstorming, we landed on Mocha & Cookie's Bakehouse.

The Cookie in our name is in honor of one of our male barn cats. In the spring of 2020, a litter of kittens was born with three male orange tabby kittens. Naturally, we kept them all (and got them fixed). Our son latched on to one, trained him to be ridiculously docile, and named him Cookie. He’s pretty much become the mascot of our farm.

And now for the other half of the name. Mocha was one of the dogs we added to our family before we were even married. She was almost 13 when we said goodbye to her, but her memory is still very much a part of our family.

And there you have it. You also have my word, Cookie never helps with the baking. His only contribution is in the name. 😸
